The storyline follows a familiar premise: a family moves into a surprisingly affordable old house with a mysterious past. The parents, played by Erica Ash and Anthony Mackie, are skeptical but cannot resist the bargain. Soon, they discover they are not alone in their new home. David Harbour, fresh from “Violent Night” and “Stranger Things,” portrays the ghost who resides in the attic. When the teenage son, Kevin (Jahi Winston), encounters the ghost, he is initially amused by its appearance and lackluster attempts to scare him. Instead of fear or disbelief, Kevin feels compelled to understand the ghost’s situation.
The ghost, named Ernest as revealed by his shirt’s stitching, is unable to speak and has no memory of his past life. He seems more like a stray creature, hesitant and isolated, only appearing when summoned by Kevin. The family quickly accepts Ernest’s presence, with Kevin’s father and older brother eager to capitalize on the ghost’s existence. They attempt to record and share videos of Ernest online, but the spirit only responds to Kevin, creating an unexpected bond between the two.
The film explores themes of family dynamics, acceptance, and the supernatural, offering a mix of humor and heart as the family navigates their newfound haunted reality.
