Description: David Dunn, a superhuman survivor of the Eastrail 177 train wreck 19 years earlier, now operates as a vigilante known as the “Overseer” alongside his son Joseph. Three weeks after the “Horde” incident, the Dunns track down Kevin Wendell Crumb, also known as the “Horde,” at an abandoned factory where he has taken four cheerleaders hostage. David confronts Kevin, but their battle is interrupted by armed forces led by Dr. Ellie Staple, who captures and imprisons them at the Raven Hill Memorial Mental Institute. Elijah Price, also known as Mr. Glass, David’s destined adversary, is held there in a sedated state, deemed harmless.
David and Kevin are placed in separate rooms equipped with security measures tailored to their vulnerabilities—water for David and light flashes for Kevin. Staple insists that their perceived superhuman abilities are delusions. Meanwhile, Elijah’s mother, Joseph Dunn, and Casey Cooke, a former victim of the Horde, try unsuccessfully to convince Staple that superhumans exist. During a final evaluation, Staple challenges the three men to question their extraordinary abilities, causing David and some of Kevin’s personalities to become distressed while Elijah remains unresponsive.
That night, Elijah escapes his cell to research Kevin, revealing his plan to break out of the institute with the help of Kevin’s most dangerous personality—the Beast. Staple discovers Elijah’s plan and attempts to silence him with a lobotomy, but Elijah sabotages the procedure, kills his caretaker, and frees Kevin. Elijah manipulates David into confronting the Beast by revealing a plot to destroy a chemical lab in the Osaka Tower, which would result in mass casualties. David escapes his cell and pursues the Beast. As the trio flees, Elijah exposes David’s weakness to water, and Joseph reveals that Kevin’s father died in the train wreck caused by Elijah 19 years earlier.
