Description: In 1972, the movie “Deliverance” follows the story of four Atlanta businessmen—Lewis Medlock, Ed Gentry, Bobby Trippe, and Drew Ballinger—who decide to embark on a canoeing trip down a remote river in northern Georgia before it is dammed. Lewis, an experienced outdoorsman, leads the group, while Ed, his close friend, has some experience but lacks Lewis’s confidence. Bobby and Drew, on the other hand, are novices. As they travel to their starting point, the men, especially Bobby, display a condescending attitude toward the locals, who are unimpressed by the “city boys.” At a gas station, Drew, who plays the guitar, engages in a musical duel with a young banjo-playing boy, creating a memorable scene. Although the duel is enjoyable, the boy refuses to acknowledge Drew with a handshake afterward.
During their journey, the group splits into pairs, and their canoes become separated. Ed and Bobby encounter two mountain men, one of whom is armed. After a tense confrontation, the unarmed man sexually assaults Bobby while Ed is tied to a tree at gunpoint. Just as Ed is about to face the same fate, Lewis intervenes, killing the attacker with his bow and arrow. Ed then retrieves the gun, and the other mountain man flees. The group debates their next move, and despite disagreements, they decide to bury the body and continue their journey as if nothing happened. However, as they navigate a treacherous stretch of rapids, Drew mysteriously falls into the water, and the canoes collide, throwing the remaining three men into the river.
