Description: Derek Zoolander, a male model in New York City, faces a series of setbacks. He loses his title as the top male model to the rising star Hansel, suffers the loss of his roommates and colleagues in a bizarre accident, and is rejected by his working-class family in southern New Jersey. Meanwhile, fashion mogul Jacobim Mugatu and Derek’s agent, Maury Ballstein, are tasked by the fashion industry with finding a model who can be brainwashed to assassinate the progressive Prime Minister of Malaysia. His policies threaten their use of cheap child labor. Mugatu chooses Derek, whom he typically avoids, to star in his next runway show as part of the brainwashing scheme. Derek is conditioned to carry out the assassination when the song “Relax” by Frankie Goes to Hollywood plays.
Matilda Jeffries, a journalist who feels responsible for Derek’s downfall after writing a critical article about him, becomes suspicious of Mugatu’s intentions. She warns Derek, but he dismisses her concerns. After receiving information from former hand model J.P. Prewett, Matilda and Derek meet him in a cemetery. Prewett reveals the fashion industry’s involvement in historical political assassinations, including those of Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy, and warns that brainwashed models are killed after completing their missions. Mugatu’s men attack them, forcing Derek and Matilda to flee.
They seek refuge at Hansel’s home, believing it to be the last place Mugatu would search. Derek, Hansel, and Matilda bond, resolving their differences while indulging in Hansel’s narcotics and engaging in group activities. Later, Derek and Hansel break into Maury’s office to find evidence of the assassination plot but struggle to access the necessary information on his computer.
