**Storyline:**
Walter and Danny are two brothers who constantly clash with each other and their teenage sister, Lisa. While their divorced father is at work and Lisa, left in charge, is asleep, Danny finds an old science fiction-themed board game called Zathura in the basement. As he begins to play, the game generates a card describing a meteor shower. Moments later, a real meteor shower strikes their living room, revealing that the game is altering reality.
The brothers soon realize their house is floating in outer space. Lisa wakes up, confused by the dark sky, and prepares to leave, but the next card puts her into cryonic sleep, freezing her solid. Walter deduces that the only way to restore normalcy is to complete the game. As Walter and Danny take turns, they face numerous dangers, including a malfunctioning robot, a close encounter with a star, and an attack by reptilian aliens known as Zorgons.
During one turn, Danny’s move summons an astronaut who begins eliminating the house’s heat sources, as the Zorgons are drawn to warmth. The astronaut cleverly diverts the Zorgons’ ship by setting their father’s couch on fire and ejecting it into space.
Walter insists the astronaut leaves, but Danny allows him to stay. Tensions rise, and Walter accuses Danny of cheating by moving his game piece prematurely. When Walter tries to correct the move and take his turn, the game ejects him from the house as punishment, but the astronaut saves him. Although Danny apologizes, Walter remains unforgiving. Later, Walter receives a card granting him a wish, sparking another heated argument. The astronaut warns Walter not to act on his anger when making the wish.
