Plot Summary:
Zack Brown and Miriam “Miri” Linky, longtime friends since elementary school, share a home in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh. Despite their jobs—Miri works at a local mall, and Zack is employed at a coffee shop—their utility bills remain unpaid for months. Zack’s obsession with the Pittsburgh Penguins and his involvement in the local amateur hockey team, the Monroeville Zombies, leave little time for financial responsibilities. On the eve of Thanksgiving, their water is shut off just before their high school reunion.
At the reunion, Miri tries to reconnect with her attractive former classmate, Bobby Long, while Zack learns from Brandon St. Randy that he is a gay porn star and Bobby’s boyfriend. Upon returning home, the electricity is also cut off. Inspired by a viral video of Miri filmed by teenage boys at Zack’s workplace, which revealed her unattractive underwear, Zack convinces Miri to create a pornographic film to earn money.
Assembling a cast and crew from acquaintances and hired help, they plan to produce a Star Wars parody titled *Star Whores*. Delaney, the film’s producer and Zack’s co-worker, rents equipment and a studio space for filming. However, after the first night of filming, they discover the building is being demolished, with all their equipment and costumes destroyed. It turns out the person who rented the space has disappeared with their money. Later, Zack suspects his boss at the coffee shop may have installed a hidden camera.
This comedic and unconventional story explores friendship, financial struggles, and creative desperation in a humorous and unique way.
