Description: Kōsei Arima, a renowned piano prodigy, earned the nickname “the human metronome” for his exceptional precision and timing. His success was driven by the rigorous training imposed by his mother, Saki, who was both terminally ill and abusive. At the age of seven, after being slapped by her for what she considered an undeserved victory, Kōsei vowed never to play the piano again, even wishing for her death. Tragically, Saki passed away the next day, leading to Kōsei’s mental breakdown during a recital, where he lost the ability to hear the piano. This event marked the end of his public performances.
A decade later, in April, Kōsei is invited by his childhood friends, Tsubaki Sawabe and Ryōta Watari, to join them on a double date with Kaori Miyazono, a lively and unconventional violinist. Kaori’s unique style captivates audiences, though she often disregards traditional cues. For one of her competitions, she insists that Kōsei accompany her on the piano, pushing him to come out of retirement. During the performance, Kōsei experiences another breakdown, but Kaori encourages him to start over. Despite her disqualification, the organizers invite her to perform at a gala concert.
For the gala, Kaori chooses a piece titled “Love’s Sorrow,” a melody Kōsei’s mother used to play for him. Though hesitant, Kōsei is encouraged by Hiroko Seto, a pianist and his mother’s friend, to prove his growth as a musician. This opportunity becomes a turning point in his journey of reconciliation and self-discovery.
