Description: Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, a lecturer at an American medical school and engaged to a socialite named Elizabeth, becomes frustrated whenever his infamous grandfather, Victor Frankenstein, is mentioned. He insists his surname is pronounced “Fronkensteen” to distance himself from his family’s legacy. When he inherits his family’s estate in Transylvania after the death of his great-grandfather, Baron Beaufort von Frankenstein, Frederick travels to inspect the property.
At the Transylvania train station, he is greeted by Igor, a hunchbacked servant whose grandfather worked for Victor, and Inga, a young and beautiful assistant. Frederick soon meets Frau Blücher, the intimidating housekeeper of the estate. After discovering Victor’s hidden laboratory and reading his journals, Frederick decides to continue his grandfather’s experiments in reanimating the dead.
With Igor’s help, Frederick steals the body of a recently executed criminal and attempts to bring it to life. However, a mishap occurs when Igor accidentally ruins the brain of a respected scientist, Hans Delbrück, and replaces it with an “Abnormal” brain. Using electrical charges during a lightning storm, Frederick successfully revives the creature, but it becomes violent and nearly strangles him before being sedated.
Meanwhile, the townspeople grow suspicious and uneasy about Frederick resuming his grandfather’s controversial work.
