Description: Thirty-five-year-old Ezra Cohen co-hosts a podcast discussing African-American issues. During Yom Kippur, he attends synagogue with his family, where he faces awkward questions and comments from the congregation. His parents set him up on a date with a woman from the same synagogue. Later, Ezra vents to his friend Mo about his struggles to find someone he can truly connect with.
Meanwhile, Amira Mohammed attempts to end a relationship and accidentally pulls up in front of Ezra’s workplace due to frustration with her GPS. Mistaking her for his Uber driver, Ezra hops into her car. Amira reunites with her brother Omar and father Akbar, who discusses the gentrification affecting his juice bar. Despite Akbar’s emphasis on Amira dating a Muslim, she and Ezra continue to see each other, eventually moving in together.
Six months later, Ezra introduces Amira to his family. His parents, Shelley and Arnold, awkwardly shower her with attention, and Shelley’s insensitive remarks about the Black Lives Matter movement force Ezra to intervene. He reveals his intention to propose to Amira. Mo critiques the ring size, and Ezra plans to justify it as a family heirloom. Mo suggests meeting Amira’s parents first, leading to a tense dinner where Akbar expresses disapproval. Despite this, Ezra proposes, and Amira happily accepts after discovering the ring.
