Description: The story begins in 1994. Shen Chia-yi, a top student, is well-liked by both her teachers and classmates. Ko Ching-teng, a mischievous and underachieving student, claims he has no interest in her, even though they’ve been classmates since junior high. One day, Ching-teng is caught masturbating during class and is moved to sit in front of Chia-yi as punishment.
Later, Chia-yi forgets her English textbook, and Ching-teng secretly gives her his own, taking the blame. He endures a scolding and punishment from the teacher. Touched by his kindness, Chia-yi prepares a practice exam to help him improve and convinces him to study with her after school. As they spend more time together, Ching-teng’s grades start to rise.
After graduation, Ching-teng gets into the prestigious National Chiao Tung University, while Chia-yi, who fell ill during the admission exam, is accepted into the National Taipei University of Education with average scores. Feeling devastated, she is comforted by Ching-teng, who calls her regularly from university. During the winter break, they go on their first “date,” where Ching-teng asks if she loves him. Afraid of rejection, he stops her from answering (though it’s later revealed she would have said yes).
Later, Ching-teng organizes a fight night to impress Chia-yi with his toughness, but she finds it immature and unnecessary. This leads to an argument, causing their relationship to fall apart.
