Description: “Yesterday,” released in 2019, follows the story of Jack Malik, a struggling singer-songwriter from Lowestoft, performing for small audiences. Encouraged by his childhood friend and manager, Ellie Appleton, Jack perseveres in pursuing his dreams. During a worldwide power outage, Jack is struck by a bus. Upon recovering, he discovers that no one remembers the Beatles when he performs their song “Yesterday.” Seizing this opportunity, Jack begins performing the band’s hits as his own.
After recording a demo with local producer Gavin, Jack gains attention and is invited by pop star Ed Sheeran to open for him in Moscow. Ellie stays behind due to work commitments, so Jack’s friend Rocky accompanies him instead. Following a songwriting challenge with Sheeran, Jack’s talent catches the eye of Sheeran’s ruthless manager, Debra Hammer, who propels him to global fame.
As Jack prepares to move to Los Angeles permanently, Ellie confesses her love for him. Struggling to recall the lyrics to “Eleanor Rigby,” Jack travels to Liverpool, the Beatles’ hometown, hoping to jog his memory. Ellie joins him, and their feelings deepen, but she ultimately realizes she cannot be part of his celebrity lifestyle. Heartbroken, Jack returns to Los Angeles, yearning for a normal life, while Ellie begins a relationship with Gavin.
