Description: In the fall of 2000, Alice, a curious yet inexperienced junior, attends a strict Catholic high school in the Midwest. Father Murphy, her Morality teacher, emphasizes that any sexual activity not intended for procreation within a heterosexual marriage is a sin punishable by eternal damnation. Alice wrestles with her growing feelings of desire, especially after Father Murphy and her best friend Laura make her feel ashamed.
A rumor spreads that Alice “tossed the salad” of a classmate, Wade, at Laura’s party. Alice denies the claim, admitting she doesn’t even know what the phrase means. The gossip reaches Mrs. Veda, who bans Alice from serving at Mass. Later, during confession, Alice admits to minor sins and receives a light penance of twenty prayers, which she diligently completes in the chapel, haunted by the words of Father Murphy and Mrs. Veda about sexuality.
Determined to stay on the right path, Alice decides to attend the school’s “Kirkos” retreat, while Laura joins to gain acceptance from Nina, a popular senior. At the retreat, Alice notices Chris, an attractive senior leader, and they start to bond when she is assigned to his group. That night, Alice accidentally discovers a way to pleasure herself using her phone’s vibrating feature but stops abruptly after noticing the crucifix in her room.
