In May 2021, it was confirmed that Chalamet would take on the role of Wonka, with the rest of the supporting cast revealed in September of the same year. Filming began in the UK in September 2021 at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden, and included locations in Oxford, Lyme Regis, Bath, St. Albans, and the Rivoli Ballroom in Crofton Park, London. The film features original songs by Neil Hannon and an original score composed by Joby Talbot.
“Wonka” had its premiere in London at the Royal Festival Hall on November 28, 2023. It was released in the UK on December 8 and in the US on December 15 by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film has performed well at the box office, grossing over $513 million worldwide against a budget of $125 million and has received generally favorable reviews, earning a BAFTA nomination for Outstanding British Film. Timothée Chalamet was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.
