Description: Wonder Woman is a 2009 animated superhero film released directly to DVD, centered on the iconic character of the same name. The storyline draws inspiration from George Pérez’s reboot of the character, particularly the “Gods and Mortals” arc, which marked the beginning of the character’s second volume in 1987. This film is the fourth installment in the DC Universe Animated Original Movies series, produced by Warner Premiere and Warner Bros. Animation. Directed by Lauren Montgomery, who also contributed to *The Death of Superman* and *Justice League: The New Frontier*, the film was written by Gail Simone and Michael Jelenic. It was produced by Bruce Timm, a renowned figure in DC Comics animation. On August 11, 2015, Warner Home Video re-released the film in a combo pack, including a DVD, Blu-ray, digital copy, and the graphic novel that inspired it.
Set in ancient times, the story follows the Amazons, a powerful race of warrior women led by Queen Hippolyta. They clash with Ares, the god of war, and his army. During the battle, Hippolyta beheads her son Thrax, whom Ares forced upon her, and then defeats Ares himself. Zeus intervenes to prevent Ares’ death, and Hera neutralizes his powers with magical bracers, stripping him of his ability to draw strength from violence and death. As a reward for their service, the Amazons are granted the island of Themyscira, where they remain eternally youthful and isolated from humanity while guarding Ares for eternity. Later, Hippolyta creates a daughter, Princess Diana, sculpting her from the sands of Themyscira and bringing her to life with her own blood.
Over a thousand years later, Diana grows restless on Themyscira and dreams of exploring the outside world. Her life takes a dramatic turn when U.S. Air Force Colonel Steve Trevor crash-lands on the island after a dogfight, setting the stage for an epic adventure.
