Description: August “Auggie” Pullman is a 10-year-old boy living in Brooklyn with his family, including his mother Isabel, father Nate, older sister Via, and their dog Daisy. Born with a rare facial deformity called mandibulofacial dysostosis, Auggie has undergone 27 surgeries to improve his ability to see, hear, speak, and smell. Although he has been homeschooled, his parents decide to enroll him in middle school at Beecher Prep. Before the school year begins, Auggie meets Principal Tushman, who arranges a tour for him with three other students: Jack, Julian, and Charlotte. Initially, Auggie faces isolation but eventually forms a close bond with Jack.
On Halloween, Auggie wears a Ghostface costume due to issues with his planned Boba Fett outfit. Feeling confident and anonymous, he walks through school in high spirits. However, he overhears Jack, who doesn’t recognize him, joining Julian and others in mocking him. Deeply hurt, Auggie becomes emotionally distressed, forcing his mother to cut short her special day with Via to comfort him. Despite her disappointment, Via encourages Auggie to go trick-or-treating, and he later befriends a girl named Summer, sharing his feelings about the fallout with Jack.
When Jack learns why Auggie is avoiding him, he resolves to make amends by partnering with him for the science fair. Tensions rise when Julian calls Auggie a freak, leading to a physical altercation with Jack. Although Jack is suspended, he writes a letter defending Auggie, which the principal reads. Jack later apologizes to Auggie through Minecraft, explaining he only mocked him to fit in with Julian’s group. The two reconcile.
Meanwhile, Via joins the drama club after meeting a boy named Justin, with whom she begins a relationship. She is cast as the understudy for Miranda’s lead role in the school production of “Our Town,” navigating her own personal growth alongside Auggie’s journey of acceptance and friendship.
