**Storyline:**
Claire Shannon, a seventeen-year-old high school outcast, is haunted by the traumatic memory of witnessing her mother’s suicide during her childhood. Her father, Jonathan, a former musician and compulsive hoarder, discovers a Chinese music box while dumpster diving and gives it to Claire as an early birthday gift. Claire deciphers one of the inscriptions on the box as “Seven Wishes” and casually wishes for her school bully, Darcie, to “rot.” Shortly after, Darcie develops a severe infection and is hospitalized. On the same day, Claire’s dog, Max, dies in their house after being attacked by rats. Claire realizes the box grants wishes but fails to understand the grave consequences that accompany them.
Claire’s second wish is for a popular boy named Paul to fall in love with her. As a result, her wealthy uncle passes away. Upon learning of his death, Claire wishes to inherit his fortune, which she does. However, a friendly neighbor, Mrs. Deluca, dies in a tragic accident. Seeking help, Claire turns to her classmate Ryan Hui, whose cousin Gina assists in deciphering the symbols on the box. Gina explains that each of the seven wishes comes with severe consequences and must follow specific rules. Claire’s fourth wish transforms her father’s personality, causing him to stop dumpster diving.
Later, Gina deciphers a warning: “When the music ends, the blood price is paid.” After alerting Ryan, Gina dies mysteriously. Ryan discovers her body and confronts Claire about the wishes, but she denies any involvement. The story unfolds as Claire grapples with the dark consequences of her desires.
