Description: “The Money Is” (2000) Movie Summary
The story follows professional thief Henry Manning, who is under care in an Oregon nursing home after reportedly suffering a severe stroke, leaving him unable to move or speak. Carol Ann McKay, a former high school prom queen now married to her high school sweetheart and football star Wayne, is assigned to care for him. Intrigued by Henry’s notorious past as a successful bank robber who evaded capture for 30 years, Carol begins to suspect that his condition might be a ruse.
To test her theory, Carol attempts to provoke Henry by performing a lap dance, but he remains unresponsive. Convinced he’s faking, she pushes his wheelchair off a pier into the water, daring him to swim or drown. Wayne arrives just in time to dive in after Henry, but moments later, Henry emerges from the water, revealing he had been pretending all along. Exposed as a fraud, Henry explains his motives and rejoices in being able to move and speak freely again.
As the trio bonds over drinks, Carol proposes the idea of robbing a local bank. Initially dismissing the plan as absurd, Henry eventually changes his mind, and the scheme evolves into an armored transport heist. Under Henry’s guidance, Carol and Wayne prepare for the robbery. Despite encountering a few obstacles during the heist, the team successfully pulls it off.
