This film marks Selick’s first feature since his 2009 hit, *Coraline*.
The movie premiered at the 47th Toronto International Film Festival on September 11, 2022. It was released in select theaters on October 21, 2022, and began streaming on Netflix on October 28, 2022. The plot follows two mischievous demon brothers, Wendell and Wild, who team up with a 13-year-old girl named Kat Elliot to bring them into the Land of the Living. Development for the film began in November 2015, with Netflix acquiring the project in March 2018. Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele collaborated closely during the voice recording process, working to refine their characters and bring them to life. Pablo Lobato led the design of the stop-motion puppets, while Bruno Coulais composed the film’s score. The full cast was officially announced by Netflix in March 2022.
