Description: During the 1980s and 1990s, Wings Hauser, a prolific star of action-packed direct-to-video films, once described his audience as the type to enjoy a microwave burrito and a beer at 2 a.m. with a VCR remote in hand. Today, that same audience has shifted to streaming their favorite B-movies digitally. While their preferred snacks may have evolved, the quality of the films they consume remains largely unchanged, though with improved production values and stronger star power. This brings us to *Warhunt* (2022), a modestly entertaining blend of WWII action and horror thriller that would have fit perfectly on a Blockbuster new-release shelf not long ago. In fact, it might have stood out compared to the lesser titles surrounding it.
Directed by Mauro Borrelli and co-written with Reggie Keyohara III and Scott Svatos, *Warhunt* manages to deliver a fair amount of suspense from a familiar premise. The film draws inspiration from the historical rumors of Adolf Hitler’s obsession with the supernatural, a theme explored in countless other works. The cast commits fully to their roles, with two parallel storylines anchored by actors who hold the audience’s attention and maintain a serious tone, preventing the film from descending into unintentional comedy. While there may be moments of unintentional humor, the film largely avoids becoming the laughable mess one might expect from its synopsis. Overall, *Warhunt* is a decent entry in its genre, offering enough thrills to satisfy its target audience.
