**Storyline:**
In 1985, Bud Fox works as a junior stockbroker at Jackson Steinem & Co. in New York City. He aspires to collaborate with his idol, Gordon Gekko, a renowned Wall Street figure. After persistently calling Gekko’s office for 59 consecutive days, Bud finally gets an opportunity to meet him on his birthday, bringing along Gekko’s favorite Cuban cigars as a gift. Impressed by Bud’s audacity, Gekko agrees to hear him out. Bud presents several stock ideas, but Gekko remains uninterested. Desperate, Bud shares insider information about Bluestar Airlines, which he learned from his father, Carl, a leader in the company’s maintenance workers’ union. Intrigued, Gekko takes Bud’s advice and begins investing in Bluestar, becoming one of Bud’s clients.
Gekko provides Bud with capital to manage, but Bud’s initial honest research leads to losses. Gekko offers Bud another chance, this time instructing him to spy on British investor Sir Lawrence Wildman. They discover Wildman’s plans to acquire Anacott Steel, allowing Gekko to purchase shares and sell them at a higher price to Wildman for a profit.
As Bud grows wealthier, he enjoys the luxuries Gekko promised, including a penthouse on Manhattan’s East Side and a relationship with Gekko’s ex-girlfriend, Darien, an art consultant and interior decorator. Bud’s success at the firm earns him a promotion and a prestigious office with a view. However, his continued reliance on insider information and use of straw buyers draws the attention of the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Bud pitches a new idea to Gekko: acquiring Bluestar Airlines, expanding the company, and appointing Bud as president. The plan involves union concessions and leveraging the overfunded pension fund to save costs.
