Description: Rusty Griswold, now a pilot for a budget airline called Econo-Air, lives in suburban Chicago with his wife Debbie and their two sons, James and Kevin. Their family dynamic is strained, and Rusty feels the pressure after hearing about his friends’ lavish trip to Paris. Inspired by nostalgic memories of his childhood family vacations, Rusty decides to skip their usual trip to a cabin in Cheboygan, Michigan, and instead plans a cross-country road trip from Chicago to Walley World, just like the adventures he had with his parents and sister. For the journey, he rents an unattractive and overly complicated Albanian SUV called the Tartan Prancer.
Throughout their trip, the Griswolds face numerous misadventures. Their first stop is in Memphis, where Debbie’s college past as a rebellious sorority sister is revealed, earning her the nickname “Debbie Do Anything.” In an attempt to relive her wild days, Debbie tries to complete a drunken obstacle course but fails spectacularly. At a motel, James meets a girl named Adena, but their potential connection is ruined by Rusty’s clumsy attempts to help.
In Arkansas, the family is tricked by a local into visiting what they believe is a hidden hot spring, only to discover it’s actually a sewage dump. To make matters worse, their SUV is vandalized, and their belongings are stolen. Seeking assistance, they make a stop in Plano, Texas, to visit Rusty’s sister Audrey and her husband, Stone Crandall.
