Description: Sam, a directionless 33-year-old living in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, is fascinated by conspiracy theories and hidden messages in popular culture but neglects his overdue rent. The community is on edge due to warnings about a “Dog Killer” who is targeting pets. Sam meets his new neighbor, Sarah, who, despite catching him spying on her, invites him over. The two share a moment, watching “How to Marry a Millionaire” and getting high, but their encounter is interrupted by her roommates. Sarah suggests they meet again the next day.
The following morning, Sam discovers that Sarah and her roommates have vanished overnight. Obsessed with uncovering the truth, he notices a strange symbol on the apartment wall and begins to follow leads that take him to exclusive Hollywood parties. Along the way, he encounters the pop band “Jesus and the Brides of Dracula” and a performance artist linked to a prostitution ring involving aspiring actresses. Despite these connections, Sam struggles to piece together a coherent pattern.
Meanwhile, a news report reveals the death of billionaire Jefferson Sevence, who was found burned in a car with three women. Sam recognizes Sarah’s hat at the scene and a dead dog resembling hers. Desperate for answers, Sam reaches out to the author of “Under the Silver Lake,” an underground comic that delves into local urban legends. The author suggests that Sarah’s disappearance, the Dog Killer, the Owl’s Kiss (a mysterious figure who seduces and kills her victims), and hidden messages in pop culture are all part of a broader conspiracy. The author has even installed security cameras throughout his home to uncover the truth.
Soon after, the author is found dead, allegedly by suicide. Sam breaks into the house to review the security footage and discovers that the author was murdered by a woman dressed as the Owl’s Kiss.
