Produced by S. S. Lalit Kumar, known for distributing Vijay Sethupathi’s “’96,” the film marks Kumar’s entry into production with Sethupathi in the lead role. The project, initially titled “Thuglak,” is described as a mass subject with a sensible approach. Sethupathi’s character, a politician, is said to have intriguing shades with a touch of fantasy.
The film’s music is composed by Govind Vasantha, who previously collaborated with Sethupathi in “’96.” The cast includes Parthiban, Aditi Rao Hydari, Gayathrie, and Manjima Mohan. However, Hydari later exited due to scheduling conflicts, and Raashi Khanna replaced her, marking her second collaboration with Sethupathi after “Sangathamizhan.”
Filming began on August 3, 2019, with 35 days completed before the COVID-19 lockdown in India. Shooting resumed later, and the production wrapped up on January 7, 2021. Khanna dubbed her own lines in Tamil for the first time, having learned the language professionally.
“Tughlaq Durbar” showcases a blend of political drama and fantasy, with a talented cast and crew bringing the story to life.
