Description: Varun Sarin, portrayed by Anmol Thakeria Dhillon, is a successful writer whose latest book has become a bestseller. Sia, played by Jhataleka Malhotra, is an ambitious young lawyer. Both are young, attractive, and driven, but they also carry the emotional baggage of growing up in broken and dysfunctional families. While Sia maintains a somewhat conventional perspective on relationships, Varun believes all relationships have an expiration date. When the two meet, there is an instant connection. To navigate the challenges of a typical relationship, they devise a unique strategy: they will be lovers only on Tuesdays and Fridays, and friends the rest of the week.
This unconventional romantic approach, set in a modern, urban backdrop, explores whether commitment-phobic millennials can fall in love on a “trial basis.” The story begins in Mumbai but soon moves to London, perhaps to lend credibility to its complex relationship dynamics. However, the plot becomes crowded with too many characters and subplots, each vying for attention within a limited runtime.
Among these are Sia’s teenage half-sister, eager to lose her virginity on her 18th birthday; her gay friend pretending to be her ex-boyfriend to avoid judgment; and Varun’s single mother, whose backstory feels underdeveloped. While these elements add layers to the narrative, they often distract from the central love story between Sia and Varun.
Despite the clutter, seasoned actors like Niki Walia and Parvin Dabas deliver standout performances, bringing depth to their roles. The film’s newcomers also shine—Jhataleka Malhotra, making her debut, embodies the confident yet vulnerable young lawyer, while Anmol Thakeria Dhillon portrays the charming yet commitment-averse writer with authenticity.
“Tuesdays and Fridays” presents a fresh take on modern romance, blending humor, heart, and a touch of chaos, though it struggles to balance its many threads cohesively.
