**Storyline:**
In 1989, Kevin Flynn, the CEO of ENCOM International from the first film, vanishes without a trace. Two decades later, his son Sam, the company’s primary shareholder, pulls a rebellious prank by releasing ENCOM’s signature operating system online for free. Alan Bradley, a close friend of Kevin and a high-ranking executive at ENCOM, supports Sam’s actions, seeing them as a reflection of Kevin’s belief in open software. However, Sam is arrested for trespassing.
After being bailed out by Alan, Sam receives a mysterious pager message linked to Kevin’s long-abandoned video arcade. Investigating the arcade, Sam discovers a hidden basement housing a massive computer and laser system. Suddenly, he is digitized and transported into the Grid, a virtual reality world created by his father. Within the Grid, Sam is captured and forced into “the Games,” where he faces off against a masked program named Rinzler. During their battle, Rinzler realizes Sam is human, referred to as a “User,” and takes him to Clu, the Grid’s corrupted ruler, who resembles a younger version of Kevin.
Clu attempts to eliminate Sam in a high-stakes Light Cycle match, but Sam is saved by Quorra, an apprentice of Kevin, who leads him to his father’s hidden sanctuary, beyond Clu’s reach. Quorra explains that Kevin had been striving to develop a perfect computer system, with Clu and the security program Tron as its co-creators. Together, they discovered a unique species called “isomorphic algorithms” (ISOs), which could unlock profound natural mysteries. However, Clu deemed the ISOs a threat, betrayed Kevin, destroyed Tron, and eradicated the ISOs.
The Portal, which allows travel between the Grid and the real world, was sealed, trapping Kevin inside. Clu sent the message to Alan to lure Sam into the Grid, aiming to reopen the Portal temporarily. Since Kevin’s identity disc is the master key to the Grid and the only means to traverse the Portal, Clu anticipates that Sam will lead him to Kevin. With Kevin’s disc in hand, Clu intends to escape the Grid and impose his vision of perfection on the human world.
