Description: Ambitious LAPD Officer Jake Hoyt is up for a promotion and assigned to Detective Alonzo Harris, a highly decorated narcotics officer, for a one-day evaluation. The day begins with the two patrolling Los Angeles in Alonzo’s Monte Carlo. They encounter college students buying cannabis, and Alonzo confiscates their drugs. He pressures Jake to smoke the confiscated substance, which Jake initially refuses. Alonzo threatens him with a gun, insisting that such hesitation on the streets could be fatal. Reluctantly, Jake complies and learns the substance was laced with PCP.
Next, they visit Roger, a former cop turned drug dealer. While there, Jake witnesses two addicts attempting to assault a teenage girl in an alley. He intervenes and rescues her, retrieving her wallet afterward. Later, Alonzo and Jake arrest a dealer named Blue, who provides information about his employer, Kevin “Sandman” Miller, a drug lord currently imprisoned. Using a fake search warrant, Alonzo steals $40,000 from Sandman’s residence.
The two then have lunch with Alonzo’s mistress, Sara, and his young son. Alonzo meets with three corrupt high-ranking police officials, known as the “Three Wise Men,” who warn him that the Russian Mafia is after him and suggest he leave town. Alonzo insists he has the situation under control and trades Sandman’s drug money for an arrest warrant.
Using the warrant, Alonzo, Jake, and four other officers raid Roger’s house, seizing $4 million. Alonzo keeps a quarter of the money for himself. When Jake refuses to execute Roger, Alonzo shoots him and stages the scene to make the killing appear justified. A furious Jake confronts the corrupt officers, leading to a tense standoff.
