**Storyline:**
After more than 30 years since graduating from TOPGUN, United States Navy Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell continues to serve as a test pilot. Despite earning numerous accolades, his repeated defiance of orders has prevented him from advancing to a higher rank. His friend and former TOPGUN rival, Admiral Tom “Iceman” Kazansky, commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, often steps in to protect Maverick from being grounded. Rear Admiral Chester “Hammer” Cain decides to cancel Maverick’s “Darkstar” scramjet program, favoring investments in drone technology. Before the program can be officially shut down, Maverick devises a new flight plan to achieve high-hypersonic speed, successfully meeting the program’s objectives. However, the prototype is destroyed when Maverick pushes beyond Mach 10. Iceman intervenes once again, assigning Maverick to NAS North Island for his next mission, while Hammer warns him that the era of crewed fighter jets is nearing its end.
The Navy is tasked with destroying an unauthorized uranium enrichment plant located in a deep canyon, defended by SA-3 Goa surface-to-air missiles (SAMs), GPS jammers, and advanced fifth-generation Sukhoi Su-57 fighters. Maverick develops a strategy using two pairs of F/A-18E/F Super Hornets for the mission. Despite his desire to lead the operation, Maverick is assigned to train a group of elite TOPGUN graduates selected by Air Boss Vice Admiral Beau “Cyclone” Simpson, who disapproves of Maverick’s unconventional methods.
Maverick earns the respect of his skeptical students by outperforming them in dogfights. Among the graduates are Lieutenants Jake “Hangman” Seresin and Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, the son of Maverick’s late best friend and RIO, Nick “Goose” Bradshaw. Rooster and Hangman clash due to their differing attitudes—Rooster dislikes Hangman’s reckless demeanor, while Hangman criticizes Rooster’s cautious approach. Maverick reconnects with his former girlfriend, Penny Benjamin, revealing to her that Rooster’s mother made him promise to prevent Rooster from becoming a pilot before she passed away.
