Description: “Tonic” is a 2021 film that follows the life of 75-year-old Jaladhar Sen, a retired man living with his wife, son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter. The family dynamic is strained due to the son’s controlling and overbearing nature, which creates tension within the household. The story revolves around the struggles of the elderly couple as they navigate the family’s behavior, particularly when their son and daughter-in-law throw an extravagant celebration for their own wedding anniversary but plan only a modest gathering for Jaladhar and his wife’s 46th anniversary.
Hoping to escape the growing tensions, Jaladhar and his wife plan a foreign trip and seek assistance from a travel agent named Tonic. However, their dreams are dashed when the wife’s passport application is rejected due to missing documents. Frustrated, Jaladhar blames Tonic for the disappointment. Eventually, the couple decides to visit Darjeeling instead, with Tonic accompanying them. During the trip, Tonic’s presence becomes a turning point, helping to restore lost happiness and love within the Sen family. Through Tonic, Jaladhar learns the true meaning of living life to its fullest, leaving him deeply grateful for the unexpected role Tonic played in their lives.
