**Storyline:**
After the murder of model Margaret by Shuu Tsukiyama, a ghoul with extravagant tastes, Tsukiyama visits Anteiku and befriends Ken Kaneki, secretly planning to devour him. Tsukiyama lures Kaneki to a ghoul restaurant, where he is captured to be eaten. However, when Tsukiyama discovers Kaneki’s ghoul eye, and the CCG raids the place, Kaneki manages to escape.
Kaneki meets Kimi Nishino, the human girlfriend of Nishiki Nishio, who was previously injured by attackers. Nishino is later kidnapped by Tsukiyama, who demands to eat Kaneki while forcing him to consume Nishino. Nishio and Touka Kirishima intervene, rescuing Nishino. Initially, Kirishima considers killing Nishino for knowing ghoul identities, but after Nishino praises her kagune, Kirishima spares her.
In 2018, Shochiku hinted at a second live-action Tokyo Ghoul film on their YouTube channel, officially announcing “Tokyo Ghoul 2” for a 2019 release. The film was later titled *Tokyo Ghoul S*. Maika Yamamoto replaced Fumika Shimizu as Touka Kirishima following Shimizu’s retirement.
The film’s release date was set for July 19, 2019, with teasers, a trailer, and poster unveiled in April 2019. The first 150 seconds of the film were shared on Shochiku’s YouTube channel in May 2019. The theme song, *Introduction* by Queen Bee, was revealed at the Tokyo premiere on June 1, 2019.
The film premiered in Tokyo on June 11, 2019, and in Osaka on June 24, 2019, followed by a nationwide theatrical release starting July 19, 2019. Funimation licensed the film for the US and Canada, premiering it at Anime Expo in Los Angeles on July 6, 2019, and at Fantasia Festival in Montreal on July 30, 2019. A wider screening in North America began on September 16, 2019. In Australia and New Zealand, Madman Entertainment released the film theatrically from July 25, 2019.
