Description: The Witch (2015) – A Story of Supernatural Horrors
In 1630s New England, a Puritan family is exiled from their colony due to a religious conflict. William, along with his wife Katherine, their daughter Thomasin, son Caleb, and fraternal twins Mercy and Jonas, settles near a vast, isolated forest. Katherine gives birth to their fifth child, Samuel. One day, while Thomasin is playing with Samuel, the infant vanishes mysteriously. It is soon revealed that a witch has abducted the unbaptized baby, using his body to craft a flying ointment for her broomstick.
Devastated by Samuel’s disappearance, Katherine spends her days consumed by grief and prayer. With their crops failing and winter approaching, William and Caleb venture into the forest to hunt for food. During their trip, Caleb questions whether Samuel’s unbaptized soul will reach Heaven. William reveals to his son that he traded Katherine’s cherished silver cup for hunting supplies to ensure their survival.
Back at home, Katherine accuses Thomasin of losing the silver cup and even suspects her involvement in Samuel’s disappearance. The children overhear their parents considering sending Thomasin away to serve another family, as she is nearing adulthood.
Later, Thomasin discovers Caleb preparing to check a trap in the forest and insists on joining him. In the woods, they encounter a hare, which startles their horse. The horse throws Thomasin, leaving her unconscious, while Caleb becomes lost in the forest. He stumbles upon their dog’s mutilated body and eventually finds a hovel. There, he meets the witch disguised as a beautiful woman in a red cape. She seduces him, her arm turning old and withered as she caresses his head.
The Witch (2015) is a chilling tale of fear, suspicion, and supernatural terror set in the harsh and unforgiving landscape of colonial America.
