Description: “The Whole Nine Yards” (2000) is a comedy film that follows the story of Nicholas “Oz” Oseransky, played by Matthew Perry, a dentist from Chicago who lives in Quebec. Despite being a kind-hearted man, Oz is despised by his wife Sophie and her mother. His assistant, Jill, jokingly asks him to name a price to make Sophie disappear. Things take a turn when Oz meets his new neighbor, Jimmy “the Tulip” Tudeski, a notorious Chicago hitman with a bounty on his head.
Oz accidentally reveals Jimmy’s identity to Sophie, who becomes intrigued by the situation. Oz befriends Jimmy and confides in him about his personal struggles: his business partner, Sophie’s father, was involved in a scandal with an underage boy and embezzled funds from their dental practice before committing suicide, leaving Oz in significant debt.
When Sophie learns about Jimmy, she convinces Oz to travel to Chicago to inform mob boss Janni Gogolak about Jimmy’s whereabouts in exchange for a reward. Reluctantly, Oz agrees. However, once in Chicago, Oz has no intention of betraying Jimmy. He encounters Janni’s enforcer, Franklin “Frankie Figs” Figueroa, and denies any knowledge of Jimmy but is taken to Janni’s estate. There, he meets Cynthia, Jimmy’s estranged wife.
Janni orders Frankie to accompany Oz back home and monitor Jimmy until Janni can eliminate him. Meanwhile, Cynthia warns Oz that both Janni and Jimmy want her dead to claim a $10 million trust, referred to as “the whole nine yards.” Oz and Cynthia end up sleeping together, and he vows to protect her.
Back in Canada, Jimmy reveals to Oz and Frankie that he and Frankie are plotting to kill Janni and Cynthia. Jimmy also discloses that Sophie had attempted to hire him to kill Oz. Jimmy offers to eliminate Sophie, but Oz refuses. Oz eventually shares the entire story with his assistant, Jill.
The film is a mix of comedy and crime, filled with twists and turns as Oz navigates the dangerous world of mobsters and hitmen.
