Description: The Wedding Singer, released in 1998, is a romantic comedy set in Ridgefield, New Jersey, in 1985. The story revolves around Robbie Hart, a wedding singer eagerly anticipating his marriage to his fiancée, Linda. At the reception hall where he works, he befriends Julia Sullivan, a new waitress, and promises to perform at her future wedding, even though her fiancé, Glenn Gulia, a businessman and bond investor, has yet to set a date.
On his wedding day, Robbie is left heartbroken when his sister informs him that Linda has changed her mind and abandoned him at the altar. Later, Linda confronts Robbie, expressing that she fell in love with his dreams of becoming a rock star and now resents the idea of marrying a mere wedding singer. This rejection sends Robbie into a deep depression, worrying his friends and family.
Encouraged by his best friend Sammy, Robbie attempts to return to work but delivers a lackluster performance, prompting him to give up on wedding gigs. He also backs out of his promise to sing at Julia’s wedding when Glenn finally sets a date. However, Julia convinces Robbie to assist with wedding preparations, and their friendship grows. During a double date with Glenn and Julia’s cousin Holly, Robbie discovers that Glenn is unfaithful to Julia and plans to continue cheating after their marriage.
As Julia and Robbie grow closer, they become increasingly confused by their feelings for each other. When Holly reveals that Julia is marrying Glenn for his wealth, Robbie unsuccessfully pursues a banking job, leading to tension between him and Julia. Disheartened, Robbie adopts Sammy’s approach of shallow relationships, only for Sammy to confess his own unhappiness and encourage Robbie to express his feelings to Julia. Meanwhile, Julia confides in her mother about her waning love for Glenn and her growing affection for Robbie, tearfully dreading the thought of becoming “Mrs. Julia Gulia.”
The film explores themes of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery as Robbie and Julia navigate their complicated emotions and relationships.
