Description: Kat Ellis, played by Debra Messing, is a single woman from New York who travels to her parents’ home in London to serve as the maid of honor at her younger half-sister Amy’s wedding. Amy is portrayed by Amy Adams. Kat’s former fiancé, who left her unexpectedly two years earlier, is set to be the best man. Nervous about seeing him again and wanting to make an impression, Kat hires a charming escort named Nick Mercer, played by Dermot Mulroney, to act as her boyfriend.
Kat’s plan is to make her ex, Jeffrey, portrayed by Jeremy Sheffield, jealous. However, things take an unexpected turn when Nick manages to convince everyone, including Kat herself, that they are deeply in love. As the story unfolds, Kat finds herself developing real feelings for Nick, who also begins to fall for her.
The night before the wedding, Kat discovers that Amy had an affair with Jeffrey while he was still with her, and that’s why he ended their relationship. Nick had already uncovered this secret but didn’t share it with Kat. Feeling betrayed on all fronts, Kat distances herself from Nick. Hurt, he decides to return to America, leaving behind the money she had paid him.
On the wedding day, Kat’s stepfather notices her distress and asks if Nick is “the one” for her. Realizing he is, Kat sets out to find him. Meanwhile, Amy confesses her past betrayal to her fiancé, Ed, played by Jack Davenport, and reassures him of her love. Angered, Ed confronts Jeffrey, chasing him out of the church and accusing him of being deceitful. Jeffrey defends himself, but Ed points out that Jeffrey was still engaged to Kat, making his actions inexcusable.
