Description: David Spritz, a successful weatherman in Chicago, earns a high salary but faces constant disrespect from locals who throw fast food at him, seemingly resentful of his seemingly effortless job. Feeling overshadowed by his father, Robert Spritzel, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, David struggles with his father’s disappointment in his inability to mature and handle responsibilities, especially concerning his two children. The situation worsens when Robert is diagnosed with lymphoma and given only a few months to live. As David’s depression deepens, he turns to archery, finding it helps him focus and calm his nerves.
Reflecting on a conversation with his father, David recalls advice: “The harder thing to do and the right thing to do are often the same” and “nothing that has meaning is easy.” While he appreciates these words, he finds it challenging to apply them in his life.
In an effort to prove himself to his father and possibly reconcile with his estranged wife, Noreen, David pursues a prestigious weatherman position with a national talk show, *Hello America*. This job would nearly quadruple his salary but require relocating to New York City. During an interview trip to New York, he bonds with his daughter, Shelly, by helping her shop for a new wardrobe. Meanwhile, he learns his son, Mike, has attacked his counselor, Don Bowden, accusing him of inappropriate behavior. Despite the stress and a night of heavy drinking, David impresses the interviewers and secures the job.
Upon returning home, David confronts Russ, Noreen’s boyfriend, slapping him for his involvement in Mike’s situation. He later beats up the counselor at his home, warning him of worse consequences. Through these struggles, David begins to confront his challenges, striving to embody his father’s wisdom and rebuild his life.
