Description: “The Wave” (2015) tells the gripping story of geologist Kristian Eikjord, who is on his final day of work in the Norwegian tourist destination Geiranger before relocating to Stavanger with his family. Sensors on the mountain indicate that groundwater has disappeared, raising concerns. When Kristian notices the sensor wires have snapped during a helicopter inspection with his colleague Jacob, he pushes for a higher alert level, but his former boss Arvid hesitates to initiate a full evacuation.
Kristian’s focus shifts when he realizes his children, Sondre and Julia, have gone to the hotel where his wife Idun is working. While Julia wants to spend one last night at their house, Sondre remains in the basement with his headphones on, unaware of the impending danger. Meanwhile, Arvid and Jacob confirm that the instrument readings are accurate, not a malfunction, leading Kristian to conclude that a catastrophic avalanche is imminent. He urgently orders the evacuation of Arvid and Jacob and sounds the tsunami alarm for the residents of Geiranger.
Moments later, the avalanche occurs, triggering a massive rockslide that crashes into the fjord and creates an 80-meter-high tsunami. Arvid sacrifices himself to save Jacob, but the tsunami is now racing toward Geiranger. With just ten minutes before impact, Idun and her colleague Vibeke evacuate hotel guests but cannot find Sondre. Determined to save her son, Idun stays behind, aided by Danish tourists Maria and Philip Poulsen.
Kristian and Julia, stuck in traffic, realize their low altitude puts them in grave danger. They abandon their car and run uphill, urging others to do the same. Along the way, they encounter their neighbor Anna, whose leg is trapped under a car. Kristian sends Julia, Anna’s husband Thomas, and their daughter Teresa up the mountain while he stays to help Anna. The story unfolds as the characters face the devastating force of nature, fighting for survival.
