Description: Fifteen-year-old Tom struggles after his family relocates from London to a remote house in Devon. He misses his friends and finds the family dynamics unsettling. His mother is in the final stages of pregnancy, and his father works in the home furniture industry. Tom shares an unusually close relationship with his 18-year-old sister, Jessie, as the family prepares for the baby’s arrival.
One night, the family rushes to the hospital when the mother goes into labor. En route, their car crashes, but no one is seriously injured. A baby girl is born while the mother is still trapped in the car. Afterward, the family visits the hospital, where the mother and newborn recover. Later, Tom expresses his loneliness to his mother while returning from shopping, but she reassures him he will make friends. Upon arriving home, Tom notices something unusual when he enters through the backdoor.
Tom confronts Jessie about what he saw – their father and Jessie naked together in a bathtub. Jessie dismisses his concerns, but Tom remains adamant. During a family outing to a pub, Jessie introduces Tom to her boyfriend, Nick, who takes them to the beach. Jessie and Nick disappear, leaving Tom alone by a fire. The parents are furious when Jessie and Tom return home late, and the father’s anger escalates until the mother intervenes. Later, Tom accuses Jessie of an ongoing inappropriate relationship with their father, but she neither confirms nor denies it, leaving Tom enraged.
Suspicious, Tom follows his father and Jessie with a video camera. He observes them entering an old war bunker near the beach. Through a hole in the wall, he witnesses his father assaulting Jessie. Overwhelmed and devastated, Tom leaves and throws the camera into the sea.
