Description: In 1974, Philippe Petit, a Parisian street performer, damages his tooth while performing. While waiting at the dentist, he notices a photo of the World Trade Center Twin Towers in a magazine and becomes inspired to walk a tightrope between them. After being evicted by his disapproving father, Philippe returns to the circus that initially sparked his passion for wire walking. There, he impresses Papa Rudy with his juggling skills and receives guidance on knot tying and rope rigging in exchange for compensation.
One day, Philippe meets Annie, another street performer, and they develop a romantic relationship. Annie supports his ambitious dream and offers her music school as a practice space. Along the way, Philippe befriends Jean-Louis, a photographer, who becomes his second accomplice in the plan. Jean-Louis introduces them to Jeff, who has a fear of heights but joins the team. Philippe devises a method using a bow and arrow to transport the cable across the towers.
After failing his first major performance by falling into a lake due to anxiety, Philippe successfully walks between the Notre Dame Cathedral towers in Paris, earning public admiration despite being arrested.
Philippe and Annie travel to America, setting August 6, 1974, as the date for the walk. Philippe scouts the location in disguise but injures his foot on a nail. The team grows to include Barry Greenhouse, a life insurance salesman and Philippe’s fan, along with others like J.P., Albert, and David. They meticulously plan the walk, deciding Philippe must be on the wire before construction crews arrive at 7:00 a.m.
