Description: The Villainess (2017) is a gripping action film that begins with a highly skilled assassin entering a hallway and eliminating multiple targets using guns and knives. Surrounded by police, she smiles grimly before being subdued. The story then shifts to an undisclosed facility where the assassin, drugged and undergoing plastic surgery, recalls a man with a mustache trying to revive her after a breath-holding exercise, calling her Sook-hee.
It is revealed that the facility is operated by South Korea’s intelligence agency, led by a woman named Kwon-sook. Kwon-sook informs Sook-hee that her death has been faked to give her a fresh start. She is given a new identity, Chae Yeon-soo, but Yeon-soo expresses her indifference and desire to die. Kwon-sook discloses that Yeon-soo is pregnant and offers her a deal: undergo training as an agent, serve for 10 years, and gain freedom afterward. Yeon-soo agrees and, during her training, gives birth to a daughter named Eun-hye.
While undergoing a procedure to remove a tattoo from her shoulder, Yeon-soo flashes back to when she was 20-year-old Sook-hee, receiving the tattoo from the same man with the mustache. Another flashback reveals Sook-hee, as a skilled assassin, attempting to assassinate a man with yellow teeth. Captured and beaten, the man claims he did not kill her father. The man with the mustache intervenes, kills the man with yellow teeth, and rescues Sook-hee. The flashback continues to her childhood at age 8, where the mustached man trains her to load a pistol, urging her to dedicate her life as an assassin to him.
The film weaves a tale of revenge, identity, and survival, showcasing Yeon-soo’s journey as she navigates her dual life as an assassin and a mother.
