**Storyline:**
Casey Beldon experiences terrifying nightmares featuring strange dogs and a sinister blue-eyed child stalking her. While babysitting her neighbor’s son, Matty, she witnesses him showing his baby sibling its reflection in a mirror. Suddenly, Matty attacks her, smashing the mirror on her head and saying, “Jumby wants to be born now.” Shaken, Casey puts him to bed and leaves.
Her friend Romy shares a superstition that newborns should not see their reflections in a mirror within the first year of life, or they may die. Meanwhile, Casey’s eyes begin to change color. A doctor suggests this could be due to tetragametic chimerism and heterochromia, a rare but normal condition. Shortly after, her neighbor’s infant dies, reinforcing the superstition.
Casey’s father reveals she had a twin brother who died in the womb when his umbilical cord strangled him. They had nicknamed him “Jumby.” Casey starts to believe the spirit haunting her is her unborn twin, seeking to be born and enter the living world as an evil force.
She meets Sofi Kozma, her grandmother, who explains her own tragic past. As a child during World War II, Sofi had a twin brother, Barto, who died in Nazi experiments conducted by Dr. Josef Mengele in Auschwitz. A dybbuk (malevolent spirit) reanimated Barto to use him as a portal to the living world. Sofi killed her twin to stop the dybbuk, but it now torments her family in revenge, leading to the insanity and suicide of Casey’s mother.
