Description: The Tower (2012) is a gripping disaster film set in Seoul. The story revolves around Lee Dae-ho, a single father and manager of the luxurious 120-story Tower Sky complex in Yeouido. Dae-ho is a dedicated employee admired by his colleagues and harbors secret feelings for Seo Yoon-hee, the restaurant manager. The building’s owner, Mr. Jo, organizes a grand “White Christmas” party on Christmas Eve, complete with helicopters equipped with lights to simulate snowfall. Despite promising his daughter Ha-na a day at the amusement park, Dae-ho is called in to manage the event.
Meanwhile, the building faces structural issues, including faulty water sprinklers due to frozen pipes. Mr. Cha, the safety section head, prioritizes the party over addressing these concerns, ignoring warnings from staff. For instance, a minor fire breaks out when a cook named Young-cheol accidentally leaves a stove unattended. Young-cheol, who is romantically involved with receptionist Min-jung, even sneaks out of the kitchen to prepare her ice cream.
The plot thickens with the introduction of rookie firefighter Lee Seon-woo, who joins the Yeouido Fire Station. He quickly learns that firefighting is less frequent than expected, as his colleagues play pranks on him. During the party, as Young-cheol proposes to Min-jung in an elevator, a powerful gust of wind causes one of the helicopters to lose control. Its attached lights crash into the glass bridge connecting the two Tower Sky buildings, striking one of the structures and setting the stage for chaos.
The Tower combines personal drama, workplace dynamics, and a catastrophe, creating a tense and emotional narrative.
