Description: “The Tourist” is a 2010 film centered around Elise Clifton-Ward, portrayed by Angelina Jolie, a British woman tracked by French police in collaboration with Scotland Yard. Inspector John Acheson, played by Paul Bettany, has dedicated years to pursuing Alexander Pearce, Elise’s lover, who owes £744 million in unpaid taxes and is suspected of altering his appearance through plastic surgery. Pearce is also pursued by mobster Reginald Shaw, from whom he allegedly stole $2.3 billion. In Paris, Elise receives a note from Pearce instructing her to board a train to Venice, select a man, and mislead the police into believing he is Pearce. Elise follows the plan, choosing Frank Tupelo, a math teacher from Wisconsin, played by Johnny Depp. Acheson uncovers part of the plan from the remnants of the burned note. Shaw’s informant alerts him that Pearce is on the train, prompting Shaw to head to Venice. Elise invites Frank to stay at the Hotel Danieli, but later abandons him at a ball. Frank is chased by Shaw’s men, detained by Italian police, and almost handed over to Shaw before Elise rescues him. She urges Frank to leave Venice for his safety, revealing herself as a suspended Scotland Yard agent who agrees to help capture Pearce. At the ball, Elise receives an envelope from an unknown man, leaving the story with a mysterious twist.
