**Storyline:**
In the early 1970s, Henry DeTamble survives a car accident that claims his mother’s life by accidentally traveling back in time two weeks. Moments later, he is aided by an older version of himself who has also traveled back. Unable to control when or where he travels, Henry is drawn to significant moments, places, and people in his life but is powerless to alter major events beyond the minor changes his presence causes.
In 1991, Henry meets Clare Abshire at the library where he works. Clare is thrilled to see him, though it’s their first encounter for him. She explains that she met Henry’s future self as a child, and he told her they would reunite in the future. Since childhood, Henry has been Clare’s best friend, frequently visiting her. As a child, Clare develops feelings for Henry and is heartbroken to discover he is married. When Clare turns 18, two years before their library meeting, an older Henry kisses her, confirming her belief that he is her future husband.
Their relationship unfolds despite the challenges posed by Henry’s unpredictable time traveling, which often leaves him arriving naked in unfamiliar places. From a young age, Henry has learned to pick locks and steal clothes to survive his journeys. He frequently visits young Clare, using information from her diary to coordinate their encounters.
Henry and Clare eventually marry, though Henry disappears before the ceremony, only to be replaced by an older version of himself, leaving the wedding guests bewildered. Despite their love, Henry’s sudden disappearances strain their marriage. In an attempt to ease their struggles, Henry uses his knowledge of future events to win the lottery, but their relationship continues to face difficulties.
