Description: “The Strangers: Prey at Night,” released in 2018, is an American slasher film directed by Johannes Roberts. Co-written by Bryan Bertino and Ben Ketai, it serves as the sequel to the 2008 film “The Strangers” and the second installment in “The Strangers” film series. Development for the sequel began in August 2008, with Rogue Pictures confirming its production. Originally titled “The Strangers: Part II,” the film was set to start filming in 2009 with potential directors Laurent Briet and Marcel Langenegger, but Johannes Roberts eventually took the helm. After a lengthy and challenging development process, filming commenced on May 30, 2017.
The plot picks up ten years after the events of the first film, set in a secluded trailer park in Kalida, Ohio. The story begins with three masked assailants arriving at a couple’s trailer at night. Dollface, one of the intruders, wakes a female occupant, who is later killed offscreen while her husband remains asleep. The narrative then shifts to Mike, Cindy, and their children, Luke and Kinsey, who visit their aunt and uncle’s trailer park for a family getaway. Their peaceful trip is disrupted when Dollface, unmasked this time, knocks on their door asking for someone named Tamara. After being turned away, tensions rise, and Kinsey leaves the trailer, prompting Luke to follow her.
Released in the United States on March 9, 2018, the film grossed $32.1 million worldwide against a $5 million budget. Critical reception was mixed, with some praising its entertainment value and satirical take on horror tropes, while others deemed it inferior to the original and criticized its reliance on clichés.”
