Description: “The Space Between Us,” released in 2017, is a captivating sci-fi drama about Nathaniel Shepard, a billionaire and CEO of Genesis, who initiates the first mission to colonize Mars. During the journey, astronaut Sarah Elliot discovers she is pregnant. After landing on Mars, she gives birth to a boy named Gardner but dies from eclampsia. The identity of Gardner’s father remains unknown. Nathaniel, concerned about a potential public relations crisis and the health risks of returning to Earth, keeps Gardner’s existence a secret. Gardner is raised by astronaut Kendra Wyndham and other scientists on Mars.
At sixteen, Gardner hacks into a robot he helped create to access his mother’s personal belongings. He finds a wedding ring and a video of Sarah with a man in a beach house. Believing the man to be his father, Gardner is determined to locate him. Through an online chatroom, he connects with Tulsa, a resourceful girl from Colorado living in foster care. She mistakenly believes Gardner is confined to a penthouse due to a medical condition called osteogenesis imperfecta. They bond over their dreams, and Gardner promises to visit her one day.
When Kendra suggests allowing Gardner to visit Earth, Nathaniel initially opposes the idea due to the health risks involved. However, Gardner secretly undergoes surgery to prepare for the journey and eventually travels to Earth with Kendra and other astronauts. Upon arrival, Nathaniel is furious when he discovers Tom, the Genesis director, had kept Gardner’s training a secret without his knowledge.
Gardner is placed under quarantine at NASA for medical evaluations, which reveal he cannot survive long on Earth. Determined to find his father, he escapes and enlists Tulsa’s help. Together, they evade Nathaniel and Kendra, who try to bring him back. Their search leads them to Shaman Neka, the man who married Gardner’s parents, as Gardner continues his quest to uncover his origins.
