Description: **The Silence (2019): A Complete Overview**
**Plot Summary:**
A team of cave researchers discovers an unknown species of pterosaur-like creatures called “vesps” in a mine. The vesps violently attack and kill the researchers, escaping the mine and targeting the noisiest areas.
The story follows Ally Andrews, a teenage girl who lost her hearing in a car accident. She lives with her parents, Hugh and Kelly Andrews, her terminally ill grandmother Lynn, her brother Jude, and their pet dog. As reports of the vesp outbreak spread, the U.S. government declares a state of emergency, urging people to stay indoors and remain quiet. Ally suggests moving to the countryside for safety, as it is likely to be quieter. Hugh’s best friend, Glenn, joins them, bringing along his guns.
During their journey, a man attempts to hijack Hugh’s car, but Glenn intervenes and shoots the attacker in the leg. As they drive on, they encounter a massive traffic jam blocking the highways. Glenn takes an off-road route, but his car collides with a herd of deer, sending it tumbling down an embankment. Glenn survives but becomes trapped. Unable to free him, Hugh reluctantly leaves Glenn behind, who sacrifices himself by firing his gun to divert the vesps away from the family.
To protect his family, Hugh is forced to let their dog out of the car, knowing it will not survive. The family continues on foot, eventually finding a house with a high fence. The homeowner, unaware of the danger, is killed by the vesps when she speaks aloud. The family uses a storm drain to enter the house. Inside, Jude’s scream from being startled by a rattlesnake attracts the vesps, resulting in Kelly being bitten on the leg. Hugh manages to distract the creatures by turning on a woodchipper, which crushes the vesps, allowing the family to safely enter the house.
