Description: After the loss of her mother to cancer, medical student Nancy Adams travels to a quiet beach in Mexico, the same spot her mother once visited during her pregnancy. A kind local named Carlos drives her to the beach, while her friend stays behind at a hotel after a night of partying. Nancy meets two other surfers, and they spend hours riding the waves. During a break, she video-chats with her younger sister Chloe and has an emotional conversation with her father, revealing that her mother’s passing has made her consider leaving medical school.
While surfing one last time, Nancy spots the body of a young humpback whale nearby. As she catches her final wave, a massive great white shark attacks, knocking her off her board and biting her leg. Desperate, she climbs onto the whale carcass, but the shark strikes from below, forcing her to swim to a nearby rock. She uses her surfboard strap to stem the bleeding and later uses her jewelry to stitch her wound. Stranded on the rock, she spends the night with an injured red-billed gull, which she names Steven Seagull.
The next morning, a drunk local steals Nancy’s belongings but is killed by the shark while attempting to take her surfboard. Later, the two surfers from the previous day return to the beach. Ignorant of the danger, they enter the water and are also attacked by the shark. One of them was wearing a GoPro camera, which detaches during the attack and floats to the surface.
This gripping tale of survival highlights Nancy’s resilience as she faces the relentless predator and the unforgiving elements of the ocean.
