Description: Six months after the events of the first film, the cursed videotape belonging to Samara Morgan begins circulating among teenagers in Astoria, Oregon. Jake Pierce, on his seventh day after watching the tape, asks his friend Emily to view it as well. While stepping into the kitchen, Jake receives a phone call, initially fearing it might be Samara, but it turns out to be a friend who was part of a plan to trick Emily into watching the tape. Moments later, Jake notices dark liquid pouring from under the kitchen door. He rushes back to the living room, only to discover that Emily had closed her eyes while watching the tape. Samara soon appears and kills Jake.
Rachel Keller and her son Aidan have relocated to Astoria from Seattle in an attempt to leave the tape behind. Rachel now works at The Daily Astorian under editor Max Rourke. After learning of Jake’s death, Rachel investigates his body and encounters Samara, who reveals she has been searching for Rachel. Determined to end the curse, Rachel breaks into Jake’s house, retrieves the tape, and burns it.
Meanwhile, Aidan begins experiencing nightmares where Samara pulls him into a television. He develops hypothermia and unexplained bruises on his arms. During a visit to a county fair, Aidan wanders into a restroom and takes photos of his reflection, only to see Samara’s presence. On the way home, Rachel and Aidan are attacked by a herd of wild deer, damaging their car. After the incident, Rachel grows increasingly concerned about Aidan’s strange behavior and suspects he may be possessed by Samara.
Fearing for their safety, Rachel and Aidan seek refuge with her co-workers, including Max. While trying to bathe Aidan, he develops an intense fear of water. Samara manipulates the water, replacing Aidan with herself in the tub, and terrifies Rachel, who attempts to drown Samara in a desperate act to save her son.
