**Storyline:**
In Marseille, Corey, a prisoner, is granted early release for good behavior. Before leaving, a prison warden hints at a high-profile jewelry store in Paris that Corey could target. After his release, Corey heads to the home of Rico, a former associate who betrayed him and is now living with Corey’s ex-girlfriend. Corey retrieves money and a handgun from Rico’s safe.
Later, at a billiard hall, Corey is confronted by Rico’s men. He kills one, knocks the other unconscious, and takes his gun. Corey then purchases a large American car, hides the weapons in the trunk, and sets off for Paris. During his journey, while listening to jazz and news on the radio, he encounters a police roadblock.
Meanwhile, another prisoner, Vogel, escapes from a train while being transported from Marseille to Paris for interrogation by the respected Commissaire Mattei. Vogel evades Mattei, who orders roadblocks and leads a manhunt to capture him.
Corey, aware of the ongoing police activity, stops at a roadside grill within the search area, leaving his car trunk unlocked. Vogel, after crossing a stream to throw off scent hounds, hides in Corey’s trunk. Corey, who had been waiting for this, drives away to a secluded field and confronts Vogel. After a tense standoff, Vogel realizes Corey is also a fugitive and trusts him.
Their journey continues with Vogel back in the trunk. However, they are soon intercepted by Rico’s men, who force Corey off the road. They take his money and prepare to kill him. Vogel emerges from the trunk with the hidden guns and kills both assailants, saving Corey.
At this point, the two men form an uneasy alliance as they proceed with their plans.
