Description: The Purge: Anarchy (2014) is set in a dystopian United States governed by a totalitarian regime called the New Founding Fathers. The annual Purge, a 12-hour event where all crimes are legal and authorities do not intervene, is credited with saving the collapsing economy. As the nation prepares for the chaos, the impoverished are dehumanized and treated as expendable by the wealthy. Before the sixth annual Purge begins on March 21, 2023, an anti-Purge resistance group led by Carmelo Johns and his partner disrupts government broadcasts to condemn the New Founding Fathers.
In Los Angeles, waitress Eva Sanchez returns home to her 17-year-old daughter, Cali, and her terminally ill father, Rico, who despises the regime. As the Purge alarm sounds, Rico secretly leaves to sacrifice himself as a Purge offering in exchange for $100,000 for his family. Eva and Cali are devastated upon discovering his plan. Meanwhile, estranged couple Shane and Liz encounter a masked biker gang and must flee when their car breaks down due to sabotage. At the same time, off-duty police sergeant Leo Barnes, seeking revenge for his son’s death caused by a drunk driver who was acquitted, arms himself as a vigilante and ventures into the chaos of the Purge.
