Description: The Prowler, a 1981 horror film, unfolds in two timelines. In 1944, during World War II, Rosemary, a woman from Avalon, California, breaks up with her boyfriend via letter. A year later, on June 28, 1945, Rosemary attends a graduation dance with her new boyfriend, Roy. While at lovers’ lane, they are brutally attacked by a mysterious prowler dressed in an army combat uniform. The attacker kills them with a pitchfork and leaves behind a red rose as his signature.
Fast forward to June 28, 1980, as college senior Pam Macdonald prepares for the graduation ball, the first since the 1945 murders. Pam, along with her friends Lisa, Sherry, and Sherry’s boyfriend Carl, is busy organizing the event. Meanwhile, Pam’s boyfriend, Mark London, the town deputy, reassures her about his safety after hearing reports of a prowler. Pam heads back to her dorm to get ready for the dance, leaving Sherry behind to shower.
Tragedy strikes when Carl surprises Sherry in her dorm room, only to be attacked and killed by the prowler with a bayonet. The killer then murders Sherry in the shower with a pitchfork, echoing the 1945 murders.
At the dance, Pam spots Mark and asks him to join her. However, Lisa persuades Mark to dance with her, causing tension between Pam and Mark. Later, Lisa accidentally spills her drink on her dress and returns to the dorm to change. There, she encounters the prowler and narrowly escapes. Outside, she runs into Major Chatham, an elderly man in a wheelchair, who grabs her arm. Lisa manages to free herself and reunites with Mark.
The Prowler masterfully blends suspense and horror, drawing parallels between the past and present as the town faces a recurring nightmare.
